Public Selfcare System: an open craft circle & discussion group about coping in public.
Rhiannon Armstrong describes herself as being “an expert at the durational performance of thriving in a world geared against our survival”. She claimed this title after 3 years of living with chronic migraine. As the performance Public Selfcare System has toured various places Rhiannon has heard stories from many others who secretly perform acts of self care in public as a way of surviving all sorts of challenging situations: arthritis, anxiety, autoimmune disease, alcoholism (and those are just some of the A’s)..

Rhiannon has been developing a textile work with Waltham Forest Migrant Action Group in London: it is a resting aid constructed from high visibility jackets and boiler suits, and we are stuffing it with secret tips on how to thrive in a world geared against our survival. Come along to help sew, embroider, or offer your own tips to become part of the work.
